How is Holston Conference involved in NCD?
Holston's participation in NCD began with a vision of the Witness Team, which inspired Bishop James Swanson and the Cabinet to engage in NCD as a means of church revitalization.
On Oct. 8, 2006, more than 400 clergy and lay members representing 134 churches elected to participate in introductory training at Cokesbury Center in Knoxville, Tenn. On the following two days, 36 coaches, identified by Holston's 12 district superintendents, as well as the superintendents themselves, participated in training led by Dave Wetzler, founder and owner of ChurchSmart Resources, the U.S. partner for NCD.
In early 2007, Holston Conference will deploy the first coaches to selected churches. The goal is to have numerous Holston churches engaged in the revitalization program in the months and years to come.
